Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Courtney Reign, Founder of Reign Coaching, located in Denver, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is all about people and power. Our culture has created a tendency for people to fear power, especially in how we express our humanity. However, we aren't going to be able to move society forward without power. I educate people on how power works and empower them to use it for good in their lives and communities.
Tell us about yourself
I am a self-proclaimed swiss army human who has lived many different lives over the last two decades. I started as an entrepreneur and have used my ability to create and run businesses anytime I needed to make money over the years. After stints in the nonprofit sector, restaurant industry, marketing world, and a few others, I finally listened to the folks around me that said, "You'd make a great coach!" I took my tools, upgraded my resources and training, and started coaching. I've gone from charging $75 a session to $20k per engagement only because of the amazing results of my client's experience.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Freedom. Being able to practice what I teach and live a wholly mine life is the most amazing feeling. I employ others and work in the space of empowerment helping others to discover this lifestyle for themselves. I know I am why so many more people are experiencing a limitless life.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The loneliness. I remember when I worked on a cubicle farm back in 2014. If we were working on a project, we were all in it together. When we landed a big job, we all went out to celebrate. And if I was facing a problem I couldn't solve, I could walk 10ft to my best friend, and she'd saddle up with solutions to help me. Now, if I ever feel that way, the distance I have to go is much further to receive the support and camaraderie I used to take for granted.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a plan - a real one with a Pro-forma. Otherwise, you're just acquiring a new hobby. My favorite thing to say is that if an infusion of capital won't accelerate your growth - you just have an idea.
- Hire a coach. Someone that knows where all the pitfalls and dangers are. They will save you millions of dollars.
- Do it for only you. You may impress other people, but that won't keep your engine running. If you do this to stick it to your old man or prove you're better than Timmy from 7th grade - you will surely end up bitter and alone.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I do this work to support the community. I was an entrepreneur once and appreciated all the support I received. I also volunteer with 1 Million Cups and run some local nonprofits for solopreneurs. I know I can help your readers and listeners and would be interested in being on the YouTube channel. You can find videos I've done in the past on my Instagram reels and interviews I've conducted on LinkedIn. I'm an open book and look forward to speaking with you soon.
