Control Your Attention, Control Your Life - Regain Your Time

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maura Thomas, owner of Regain Your Time, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Through my business, Regain Your Time, I offer speaking and training services to organizations of all sizes that help busy people bring their unique gifts to the world in a way that inspires, motivates, and energizes them, instead of a way that overwhelms, stresses, and exhausts them.

Tell us about yourself

My first job out of college was working for a company that sold paper-based planners and training. I worked there for almost a decade and learned so much about the industry from great mentors. So I’ve now been working in the productivity training industry for my entire professional career, helping tens of thousands of people regain control over their days and achieve more of their most significant results in less time with less stress.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I’ve been fortunate to have been invited by two of the world’s largest publishers to write books on my topics of expertise, and I’ve now written six in total! Early in my career, I was invited to deliver a TEDx Talk. I’ve been quoted in virtually every major business news outlet, written regular columns for two of the most respected business websites, and have worked with teams at some of the world’s most recognizable brands.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The unpredictability at the beginning. Rather than a steady paycheck with benefits, the revenue was up and down. But to me, this is also the best part of being a business owner. It has allowed me to design my life and control my income.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your business finances correctly from the beginning.
  2. Join your industry association.
  3. Set aside a percentage of your revenue for two things so you can always do them, regardless of the performance of the business in any given year: personal growth and development and marketing. Don't cut these out in lean times!
