Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashley Tolliver, owner of Redicare Mobile Health Service, located in Germantown, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Redicare Mobile Health Service, LLC is a house call and telehealth service providing in-home care to address various medical conditions in the infant through elderly populations. My company is based in Maryland, with services to Washington DC, Virginia, and North Carolina coming soon. Redicare is unique because we provide a wide range of treatments in-home or at a location convenient for our patients.

Tell us about yourself

I had the idea to start a mobile medicine practice while in PA (Physician Assistant) school in 2015. Growing up in a rural area, combined with my public health education and work in the inner city, opened my eyes to the barriers many faces when trying to navigate the healthcare system. Lack of access to care, poor health education, and disparities within the healthcare system make it difficult for people to understand and manage their medical conditions. I wanted to change that by making the medical experience less cumbersome so patients can shift their focus on their health.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The demand for in-home services during the Covid pandemic was a catalyst for Redicare’s rapid growth with the addition of 12 other medical professionals within six months of opening day – I’m extremely proud of that.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a business owner in healthcare, the fluctuations and changes that come with an evolving healthcare system can be challenging. Many of these changes happen on a legislative level and require adjustment and flexibility.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be flexible.
  2. Network and build good relationships - no need to invent the wheel.
  3. Don't get discouraged if your business doesn't produce the results you wanted initially. Make adjustments and be patient.
