What's your business, and who are your customers?

My clients learn to close 7, 8, or even 9 out of 10 prospective clients. Most of my clients are chiropractors, although I can work with almost any service-oriented business.

Tell us about yourself

I've been selling for over 53 years. In 2008, I opened my sales coaching practice to teach other salespeople to sell successfully. When I first started selling, I wasn't a sales wizard. In fact, if the word no was fatal, I'd have been dead in 1970. It took me a lot of struggling and reinventing the wheel to learn to be a successful salesperson. I want my clients to be as awesome at sales as I am in a small fraction of the time!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a result of my coaching, my clients typically double, triple, or even quadruple their new sales and revenue.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Keeping up with the changes. What worked in business, marketing, sales, etc., just a few years ago just doesn't work well anymore. A business owner has to stay in touch with what's happening and design new ideas and strategies that keep a business growing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take time to set goals and plan before you start. Research your market.
  2. Watch your expenses and focus on activity that generates revenue.
  3. Get coaching and mentoring in the areas where you need to improve.
