Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with David Chun, owner of Rebel LLC., located in Fullerton, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have a few missions that are interwoven into my businesses. My main mission is to help entrepreneurs succeed in their business by helping them overcome procrastination, self-sabotage, and working on their psychology. I’m all about long-term and root cause solutions rather than temporary fixes, so I focus on creating deep identity-level transformations for my clients. I find that by focusing on fixing internal problems and removing bad habits, it’ll likely carry over in the business, and as a result, the business will flourish.

My other mission is to introduce the digital entrepreneur to the best digital tools & software on the internet. I have a long background in using these digital tools since starting my first online business about 15 years ago, and I think I can offer a good perspective on the best tools out there. I love technology, and I’m pretty nit-picky when it comes to digital tools. Some examples of digital tools that I provide content on are virtual conference platforms, best website builders, best online course platforms, etc.

That’s why I use my strengths in technology-based tools to help the average business owner make a great decision when it comes to these digital tools.

Tell us about yourself

The core of what I do is teaching. I LOVE teaching others about something I’m passionate about ❤️. I’ve always loved personal development - it changed my life. I used to be a super depressed, shy & introverted kid that didn’t have any confidence whatsoever. One day, I coincidentally walked into a bookstore, and that was the day of my second birth. I read every psychology and personal development book I could get my hands on.

Fast forward a decade plus, and I’m a COMPLETELY different person. I’ve changed almost every aspect of my character for the better. And because I’ve been able to make big drastic changes in my own life, I’m hoping I can create those same changes in other people as well.

So to answer the question, what motivates me to do what I do?
Helping others and seeing incredible changes in their lives brings me back to how my own mentors have helped me - and it just brings me the best feeling in the world, knowing that I’ve been able to pay it forward and help another person. That’s what I’m inspired by - creating a tiny, microscopic dent in the universe in my own unique way.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments, not just as a business owner but as a creator, is adding as much value to my clients as I possibly can. I love seeing other people succeed, and it genuinely fills me up inside. I see myself as a creator first (practicing what I preach), a teacher second (talking my walk), and a business owner last. Of course, all three should somehow merge together if you want to be successful, but these are the order of my personal priorities.

And that teacher part of me just gets unbelievably proud when my students succeed, and that’s a big part of what motivates and fuels me to do what I do. So, in short, my biggest accomplishments are the accomplishments of my clients. In that way, I hope I’m not just adding value - I’m multiplying it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I’ll uncover some big truths in my answer, which I hope won’t stop you from creating your own business.

But for me, the hardest part of being a business owner is all the nuances of creating the business behind the scenes. This includes the small details of creating a business brand, setting up an LLC or a corporation, designing a logo, etc. The small stuff seems like little work, but those little things really add up.

An example could be knowing how to balance your books and figuring out the digital tools to get started, getting other digital software to operate your business, getting a website host, figuring out the best landing page builders to get more leads, finding a closed captioning software for your videos, getting your head around email marketing and other things along those lines.

These are things that most people don’t see but are required if you want to create a successful business online. In fact, one area of my business is to actually help entrepreneurs figure some of this stuff out, so they won’t be bogged down by these minute details, which you can check out on my blog.

So one way I help to ease some of the hard steps of being a digital entrepreneur is to introduce them to great digital tools like great web hosting (My favorite is WPX, you can check out my WPX Hosting Review), that’ll hopefully save them time and energy so they can use their extra time in serving their clients instead. So I believe that one of the hardest things when it comes to being a business owner is dealing with all those backend operations of their business.

Another obstacle that business owners might come across is motivation. Because when you are your own boss, you no longer have accountability to constantly keep pressure on you. So often, entrepreneurs will tend to slack off, procrastinate, and have self-sabotages. This can be alleviated by getting yourself a coach (maybe from yours truly), surrounding yourself with other entrepreneurs who can push each other, or having some kind of accountability to get some fire going. Consistency is key. Doing something every day, even something small, is a lot better than having a big burst of work but not being consistent with it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. 🔥 Fire, Aim, Ready.
Go in that order because nobody’s ready. I wasn’t ready when I started.
If I wanted to wait until I was ready or everything was perfect, I would still be waiting. If you’ve always had a passion for business and are on the sidelines, you just gotta start. Always lead with action - it’s the measurement of your courage, the embodiment of intelligence, and your body meeting destiny halfway.

Fire first, then aim afterward. We all make mistakes. But most mistakes come with easy fixes. One mistake you CANNOT fix is never having tried and running out of time and life. Any other mistake is WAY better than inaction.

It’s better to try, mess up, and fix the mess up rather than having to sit on the sidelines for years waiting for perfect opportunities (there are none), trying to figure out the perfect theoretical business plan (there is none), and have zero on the action scorecard and zero on your dreams. At least in the first case, you’ve had the courage to at least give destiny a chance. You can always calibrate later, but the most important part is to JUST GO. Set sail. One day, you’ll look back and be glad that you did.

  2. Get the Foundations Right.
This means psychology and mindset. You can build a great business, but if it’s on top of lousy foundations, people will tend to self-sabotage their own work. You might think, “who would want to sabotage their own business?” But this is the conscious mind thinking this - the subconscious mind might be telling a completely different story. And if the subconscious and the conscious come into conflict with each other, the subconscious mind will win out.

People don’t have business problems - they have internal problems that reflect in their business. If your personal life and psychology are out of whack, it won’t be long until it reflects in your business as well. You must be willing to dig into your psychology and weed out these internal problems that are getting in the way of your greatest potential. And you know what? A lot of these subconscious beliefs are formed during childhood, aka trauma. So a lot of the work I do with my clients is removing many of these bad beliefs by going deep into their minds. It’s the only way to have long-term success, rather than a short burst of success followed by a quick decline.

  3. Being Aware of Unconscious Patterns.
You would be surprised at how big mental and behavioral patterns play a role in our lives. For example, one exercise I do with my clients is helping them to see their financial patterns. I have them write out their bank balance on a monthly basis. I would have them write the month's lowest balance and the month's highest balance. Most will fluctuate between a similarly low number and a similarly high number.

And many people will have this barrier, a certain amount that they won’t be able to crack. It’s an unconscious barrier where they will start to sabotage themselves around this number. But once you recognize this pattern playing out, it’s much easier to stop yourself from repeating these unconscious patterns. So it starts with awareness and recognizing patterns. And becoming aware is exponentially easier with a coach or mentor who can help you see your blind spots. It doesn’t have to be me either (but of course, if you need help, you can always contact me 😊), you can hire anyone with this knowledge to help you out.

I just want you to succeed and not have this problem in your business.
So being aware of these unconscious patterns will help you SO MUCH in your mindset when it comes to being a business owner and an entrepreneur.
