Real Life Resilience - Stacy Brookman
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stacy Brookman, Founder of Real Life Resilience, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work with corporate and professional businesswomen helping them forge the life and career they desire. Real Life Resilience Coaching is for women who want to BE confident, not just ACT confident. Women leaders need remarkable resilience and a certified coach by their side who's been there, done that, bought the corporate t-shirt and drank the Kool-Aid.
I coach women on things they don't teach you in school:
Work-life balance: It's entirely possible to have balance mastery without stress. Get rid of the tension and frustration of being a human being with a career. You deserve to have both satisfying home life and a career.
Setting boundaries: Resilient boundary setting that feels right and works for you. These boundaries eliminate stress and are easily upheld. (These ain't your momma's boundaries!)
Speaking up and speaking out: Speaking your truth without fear and managing the process of safely speaking out. I've got you covered with public speaking coaching too.
Time management: Perfect time management processes to eliminate overwhelm and make time work for YOU instead of the reverse. Get your personal and professional life together in a beautiful tango on your calendar.
Mental performance: Let's give you the most effective brain hacks to power up your mental game and boost your mental performance without exhaustion. You'll be able to reach your impossible goals faster than you imagined.
Tell us about yourself
I worked my way up the corporate ladder in a corporate insurance company from clerk to six-figure consultant. All along the way, I NEVER felt good enough to deserve the promotions and new jobs, even when I had made it to the top! I often didn't speak up because I was so afraid I would be wrong or out of place. I overworked to "prove" that I was worthy.
What I didn't realize was that I was already worthy. And I was squashing my own natural superpowers by not recognizing them and using them. I felt helpless. Until one day, I came across the Life Coach School podcast, and I signed up for Self-Coaching Scholars. Listening to the teaching, I realized that everything in my life was in my hands, that I was in complete control, and that it had been all along. And that's a good thing!
There was no need to wallow in shame or regret about what I had or hadn't done. I could capitalize on my experiences and create an amazing future for myself. And that's exactly what I've done. I became a certified life coach, and now I get to coach women into their own greatness. It's like giving them a shortcut, so they no longer have to wander through life playing small. That's what motivates me to do what I do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is the ability to do hard things. When I discovered that and proved to myself that I could, it was as if the clouds parted and the sun shone down. Now, no matter how hard something looks or feels, I am confident that I can figure it out and will find a way. My goal is to help others realize that they're in charge of their own minds and can do hard things too.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about owning and running a business is feeling like everything should work out, work well, and work fast. I've learned that slow is often better, and B- work is better than work not done at all, and sometimes it's a good thing when something doesn't work out. I never feel "ready enough," but I still move forward without expecting everything to work out as I envision it in my mind. I leave room for the circumstances to change, so I'm able to be flexible without completely getting off track.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Spend time every morning doing a brain dump. What do you think about your business? What fears are you facing? We all have thoughts that roll around in our heads, and we're not aware of them until we start writing them down. When you recognize and acknowledge them, you can do something about them.
- Own your business results and your emotions. Whether things succeed or they don't work out, you are responsible. It's not the economy, another person's actions, or anything outside you. It's your thoughts and actions that drive your business, overcome obstacles, and make you a success. Don't abdicate your emotions to anything outside of that.
- Find joy right where you're at. When you get "there" (wherever there is for you), you're still going to have troubles. Why not enjoy the ride and be happy all along your journey? It will make you a better person to be around.
