Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Raheem Sarcar, Founder and CEO of RC Marketing, located in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At RC Marketing, we're digital advertising experts. We make e-commerce and B2B brands soar to 8 and 9 figures using the magic of ads on Instagram, Google, and LinkedIn. We use alluring videos and scientific advertising that attract thousands of leads and customers straight to our clients.

Tell us about yourself

I used to be an IT guy but then decided to spice things up by starting a SaaS business. Unfortunately, at that time, marketing was not my strong suit. It was like trying to swim with an anvil tied to my ankle - painful and totally ineffective. But I didn't give up. I learned everything I could about marketing, copywriting and advertising. Soon I started helping my SaaS customers with their advertising. Before long, I decided to start my digital advertising agency - RC Marketing. Because I know what it's like to struggle with marketing, I can totally relate to entrepreneurs who are trying to grow their businesses. We're in this together, you know?

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

So, several years ago, I took this course and learned the mystical art of pre-selling - selling a product or service before it’s ready. I pre-sold my first few customers for both of my businesses before I even had a product or service ready. It's a good way to get started because it forces you to figure things out fast. Imagine being thrown into a pool before you know how to swim - terrifying, but it gets the job done.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Ah, yes, the joys of entrepreneurship. It's like being a one-man band, but instead of playing all the instruments, you have to be a salesperson, a marketer, a people manager, a financial wizard, a paperwork guru, and probably a few other things that I'm forgetting.  You may not always sleep well, but you'll learn a lot and feel quite alive!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you're going to start a business, you might as well make it something you enjoy. When the going gets tough, the tough get going... to the thing they actually like doing.
  2. Let go of doing everything yourself. I used to think that doing everything myself was the way to go. I was a one-man wolf pack, except I wasn't cool like Bradley Cooper. It was tough. But then I realized that I could delegate and hire other people to do the things I didn't like doing, and it was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
  3. Lastly, I'd say we live in a golden age where it's possible to start a business without quitting your job. I quit my job to start my first business and ran out of money six months later. That was not fun! I'd do things differently today.
