Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Lascano, Owner of RayZen Energy, LLC., located in Stephens City, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help frustrated health seekers recover their health and reclaim their lives. When medications, therapies, or other methods aren't working, whether alternative or conventional, I help the body get unstuck and heal the root cause of health symptoms.

Tell us about yourself

During my pregnancy with my first child, my health crashed after a bout of food poisoning. I battled Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and was diagnosed with adrenal dysfunction, gut dysbiosis, and multiple food sensitivities. I was sensitive to more than 80% of the foods I was eating. I visited several doctors and was told there was no way to treat my symptoms. Frustrated with the lack of answers, I decided to take ownership of my health.

I started learning about the mind-body connection and the body's energy system. I experimented with supplements and food as medicine, as well as naturopathy, homeopathy, herbal medicine, and holistic healing. I found healing, and now it is my passion to help others who are desperate for healing. I believe the body always knows how to heal if we can just get blocks out of the way.

I've helped people heal from chronic pain and infections that medical and holistic doctors couldn't fix - this is what keeps me motivated - to help people who are ready to recover their health and reclaim their life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is proving energy medicine can boost medical care's effectiveness. I've worked closely with doctors to boost patients' healing and believe there is a tremendous opportunity to improve medical care in our country by incorporating mind-body healing techniques. Once we get the patient's innate ability to heal functioning properly, medicines, herbs, dietary changes, therapy, and more can work better and help the patient recover more fully.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Having healthy boundaries between work and life is a tricky balance for entrepreneurs. When our heart and soul is committed to our work, and our work can make a difference in people's lives, it can be hard to schedule downtime, to put off a client with an urgent need, or to make those judgments at the moment. As a mom to three young children, I work hard to be present for my children and my business. I've learned by trial and error what works for my family and me and what causes too much stress. Awareness is key!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start a business that lights you up. Your heart will lead you to a business that matches your gifts and that helps make the world a better place. Your work should give you a deep sense of satisfaction and joy. Serving yourself while serving others is a win-win.
  2. When making business decisions, check with your gut. It's easy to get distracted by fads (memberships, online courses, articles, and more) and promises of monetary gain. What works for others may not work for you if it leads you down a path away from your gifts. Make these decisions with head and heart, honoring the skills you bring to the table. If you're having trouble focusing, start by asking yourself, "what makes me/my work different?"
  3. Don't be afraid to make mistakes (try new things on a small scale). Business coaches can contribute knowledge and skills, but only you know where your business is supposed to go. Trust yourself, your wisdom, and your intellect when making strategic decisions. When trying something new, don't put all your eggs in one basket. Start small, and do a proof of concept. Then you'll be able to redirect if needed. In this way, you'll honor how your business is supposed to evolve while acquiring valuable business knowledge about your customer's needs and your offerings.
