Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Raquel Macias, Style Expert, located in Irvine, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My name is Raquel Macias, and I'm a European Image Consultant living in beautiful Southern California. I specialize in helping other businesswomen like myself use style as a tool to always feel good in their skin, empowered, and as if they belong in every room, they find themselves in.

Tell us about yourself

With 13+ years of experience as a professional stylist, when asked why I dedicated my life to it instead of pursuing a career related to my degree in Communication Sciences, the style has always been a tool for me… even when I wasn't aware it existed. From surviving high school to battling cancer, style helped me keep my confidence high and my self-esteem healthy, even when I, myself, wasn't. And I wanted other women to have that too, so I made it my business!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm lucky to have had many high moments in my career so far. From being a tv host, dressing celebrities, actresses, and hosts, teaching new upcoming stylists at a renowned fashion academy in Lisbon, being a guest speaker for females in business events... And I was able to make my dream a reality when I moved to the USA.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Starting anything is hard. There are a lot of challenges. And as soon as you get traction, it starts to get a bit lonely. Not all your friends will understand your priorities or your dreams. The ones that are not on the entrepreneurial path certainly will not. So it gets overwhelming at times. It's important to find like-minded people to walk that path with you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Don't give up. Surround yourself will people that believe in you and your vision and motivate you to keep going. Don't be afraid to say no if an opportunity doesn't align with your values. But also don't be afraid to say yes, when a real opportunity comes along. Nothing great happens from your comfort zone, so... Sometimes you'll have to feel discomfort in order to grow.
