Getting Active, & Everything Else - Rainsford Physiotherapy
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dale Rainsford, Founder of Rainsford Physiotherapy, located in Victoria, BC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work in a medical health clinic as a Registered Physiotherapist helping patients optimize their quality of life through injury rehabilitation, developing home or gym exercise programs, and managing chronic pain, stress, and tension in their bodies.
My therapeutic approach involves active listening, a thorough assessment, quality education, individualized exercise programming, and targeted treatment.
Treatments in my repertoire include:
- Exercise therapy
- Manual therapy
- IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation)
- TRE® (Tension, Stress, and Trauma Releasing Exercises)
- Extracorporeal Shockwave therapy
- Telerehabilitation (online appointments)
- Therapeutic and athletic taping
- Electrical stimulation (TENS and NMES)
I am passionate about working with elite-level athletes, weekend warriors, those considering getting active, and everyone in between!
Tell us about yourself
I had been working as a Physiotherapist for nearly five years before deciding to brand and market myself more independently. Flexibility in schedule and treatment approach were the two big factors leading me towards this more independent route. The support from my family, friends, and colleagues has been instrumental in me taking this leap, and I'm thankful for the support system I have.
Professionally, chronic pain and stress management have been key topics of interest for me. Both are gaining wider recognition in the medical field due to their systemic effects on the body and society. Much of my continuing professional education has focused on chronic pain and stress, and I have enjoyed learning new approaches to these challenging conditions.
Empowering patients to take an active role in their health through education and by showing them self-management tools is what gets me excited to go to work each day!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Rainsford Physiotherapy is almost one year old, which will be its first big accomplishment!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Maintaining a comfortable and sustainable work-life balance. It can be hard to make time for marketing, business development, continuing education, and paperwork on top of doing your paid work - in my case, treating patients in the clinic.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Define your niche field/interests and strive to be the local expert.
- Don't be afraid to ask for advice when things aren't working.
- Make your weaknesses into your strengths.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
My business operates out of a medical health clinic, which provides me an opportunity to work with amazing individuals from various health disciplines. I am thankful for the support, trust, and advice my colleagues provide!
