Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Angie Tebbe, Co-Founder, and CEO of Rae Wellness, located in Eden Prairie, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Rae Wellness is a holistic wellness supplement company that aims to make well-being accessible for all by offering solution-oriented supplements at an affordable price point. Our customers are women 18+ who want to incorporate well-being into their daily routines in an easy and accessible way.

Tell us about yourself

After a fruitful career at Target, I had a realization that my well-being was declining, and I wasn't listening to what I needed. When I looked at the products created for women, I didn't see any that spoke to the needs I had. So, I knew I could create a brand that talked about all facets of wellness - stress, hormones, sex, digestion, skin, and more - in an attainable way. It's the women who take a moment to prioritize themself every day that motivates the rest of the team and me to continue our work. When women support each other in the small and big moments, we all win.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is being able to foster an inclusive culture that is reflected through our Rae team and customers. We have reached two major milestones that have been proud moments for me:

The first is reaching two million customers within a year of opening our doors, proving to the rest of the team and me that there are millions of women who want to feel their best, and we are part of their journey.

The second is being able to live our values through our benefits at Rae: delivering equal 16-week parental leave for birthing and non-birthing parents, a flexible work environment, and unlimited vacation. I don't believe "business is just business," business is personal. Keeping people at the heart of everything we do is the biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is harnessing the power of patience. Something I am continuing to learn every day is the power of patience – with myself, with the business, and in my personal life. To me, patience is the confidence to know that everything will work out as it should and that building a business needs equal parts drive, resilience, and calm. Good and sustainable movements take time, and it is so important to breathe through and enjoy the journey.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. To be successful, you have to love the process and be motivated by the challenges and the building blocks. Starting a company requires building a team, mobilizing investors, and working through immense uncertainty. You will not always know the answers or get the results you anticipated, so you must enjoy the process and learning experience.
  2. Start with your consumer - they are the key to everything. Learn how to truly listen and let that guide your brand strategy, product development, and essence of who you are. Use feedback and conversations as your north star to understand the consumer psyche and sentiment.
  3. Build your team with your community in mind. Your internal culture needs to match what you project externally - including who you hire, how you hire, and how you operate on a daily basis.
