Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sandra Millward, founder of Radiate Wellness Inc., located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My Company is called Radiate Wellness. I create personalized Holistic Nutrition programs for individuals seeking to improve their quality of life. I use science, experience, and intuition to teach and coach clients to eat optimally for their unique bodies' needs. Past client results are increased energy, hormone balancing, improved gut health, weight loss, improving mental health, improved sports performance with integration and systematic coaching style.
Tell us about yourself
With great interest in the human body and as a wellness seeker myself, after raising competitive athletes, I took my formal education and graduated in 2013. My first 'job' was touring with the Men's National Field Hockey team to Argentina. On the first leg of the flight, serendipity brought Alex McKechnie, the then physiologist of the LA Lakers, transitioning to the Toronto Raptors, to sit beside me on the flight. It was the best advice I was ever given about the athletic mindset was that 4.5-hour flight from Vancouver to Toronto from him. My Nutrition business had a great jump start! As the years went by, the team that I worked with qualified not once but twice for the Olympics consecutively. Second time in Canadian history!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a business owner, it is important to know who your clients are and to be flexible enough to pivot when the world shifts. My biggest accomplishment and there are many, was with the 2020 world pandemic, I expanded my Nutrition practice for one on one clients seeking to not only improve performance in the field but increase their personal health goals in life. I have seen virtual miracles happen with my clinical clients, as I have with my athletes. . Simply using the trio of body, mind, and spirit. I get to the root of your personal biochemical weaknesses, and we grow from there. I am constantly amazed at the mindset of my clients, and I feel honored to witness them taking their health to a higher level.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a business owner is more appealing to my creative self, and if you have the right team, it really helps. The most difficult area for me is being the hardest on myself. Stopping the negative mindset before it gets a hold of you and paralyzes you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't let fear get in the way.
- Learn to map out goals for your personal, financial, and how you wish to see your success.
