What's your business, and who are your customers?
As a leadership, team, and culture developer and Upshift Powered by Ask Patty Consultant, I help owners, leaders, and managers in small to medium-sized businesses and primarily in the auto, hospitality, and higher ed industries heighten their potential to reach goals and develop MVP Champions (Mission, Values, Priorities). Tools such as a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership, certifications in Emotional Intelligence, DE&I, Denison Culture, John Maxwell Coaching and Training, and an authorized partner of the Wiley Everything DiSC, Productive Conflict, and Five Functions of a Cohesive, enable me to provide assessments to uncover blind spots that serve as the foundation for growth and performance. I help companies with culture, coaching, collaboration, employee experience, diversity and inclusion, belonging, productivity, performance, and retention. Research and publications on the Millennials and Generation Z are also instrumental in helping leaders with today’s generational challenges.
Tell us about yourself
In my auto industry career, I was one of 18 people chosen to take on a new challenge, to develop and train GM Dealers on how to lease to consumers. As a young female, it was a big challenge to win them over. I quickly became aware of my passion for training and development and a deep understanding of how culture matters. As I grew in leadership positions and worked in good and bad cultures, I knew that behavior aspects and managing people were opportunities to build positive and productive cultures. As a result, I help coach and develop managers and leaders as people-centered and performance champions that can also make their jobs easier and retain people. I create a safe space for the exploration of blind spots to heighten potential, achieve shared goals, and make a difference in personal and professional lives.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
When students, leaders, and teams truly engage in their development and realize they can increase their potential and performance and make a bigger difference in others' lives and when they seek me out later to share stories and to share that they are grateful.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being proactive to innovative change, but narrowing my scope and having the strength to say no to other opportunities.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Develop a trusted inner circle for brainstorming, mentorship, and hard truths.
- Be open to feedback and change; relationships are essential.
- Culture can't be tweaked or changed without leadership and management development.
