What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hello!! My name is Sarah Quinttus, and I am the founder and owner of Quinttusential Yoga Therapy in Burlington, Vermont, where I offer Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy sessions to individuals and couples. In my practice, I support individuals who are looking to make transformational changes in their life by connecting them to the wisdom of their bodies. Most of the clients I serve come to work with me because they are looking for somatic processes to support their anxiety depression better or to help them heal from traumatic experiences in life. Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy combines neuroscience, contemporary body-mind psychology, Buddhism, and Yoga philosophy to support you on your journey of self-discovery, healing, and transformation. As a Yoga Therapist, I help to free you from pain and suffering in order to become more aligned with who you are meant to be. In a session, I help you skillfully manage the stress surrounding your circumstances, get 'unstuck,' and connect more fully with yourself by guiding you into the direct experience of your body through movement, breath awareness, supported postures, therapeutic touch, and non-directive dialogue.

Tell us about yourself

I LOVE what I do. I am deeply passionate about my work because I know firsthand just how transformational it is. I have the honor of witnessing the big changes happening in real-time with my clients every day. Yoga has been a big part of my life since 2010, when I took my very first Yoga class, and over the years, my practice has evolved, ebbed, and flowed. I had profound and intense emotional experiences during Yoga classes. I always knew that there was something very potent about connecting with the body. In 2017 I discovered the burgeoning field of Yoga Therapy and felt an intense call to this work. We live life with our bodies, so of course, they have to be included in therapeutic work! Traditional talk therapy never quite got me where I wanted to go on my healing journey, but once I started bringing my body with me into the healing work, everything changed. In March of 2021, I started my private practice as Yoga Therapist, and I am constantly inspired and motivated by the bravery and vulnerability that my clients bring to this work every single day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Taking the leap! Before I opened my private practice, I had a full-time salaried job with benefits. I was teaching classes and seeing clients on the side. I wanted to make the leap into private practice for a long time, but the "what ifs" held me back. When I left my job and jumped in with both feet into my own private practice and my own business, I decided to believe in myself fully. It wasn't that the fear and resistance went away, but I made a conscious choice to BE with the fear and the resistance and to take the leap anyway!!! And.... it paid off! I have a thriving practice with incredible clients, and I feel more fulfilled in my life and dharma than I have ever been before.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Imposter syndrome! I constantly worry about not doing enough, not knowing enough, not deserving to do this work, concerned that I am not as good as I could be or not as good as others (the list goes on and on!). When I hear this voice, I acknowledge that it is there, and I know it well, but I make conscious choices every single day not to let it control me and not to let it lead my actions and choices. I stand strong in my abilities and in my gifts so that I can support myself and my clients in this work. Another challenge as a solopreneur is that I have to wear many hats! Yoga Therapist, Social Media Manager, Marketing Director, Accountant, Scheduler, all the things! I am learning so much along the way, but it can certainly be a challenge wearing all of these hats at once!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself. Make a choice to invest in yourself, bet on yourself, and believe in yourself.
  2. Set boundaries. Early on, you are going to want to say YES to so many opportunities, but make sure that early on, you set boundaries! It's hard to reset them once you're in motion, so be firm with them early. For me, that means not answering client messages after 6 pm and not offering sessions on the weekends.
  3. Prioritize Self Care Practices. I usually see six clients per day, and it can be exhausting! Working with that many energy fields, bodies, and stories can really take a toll on my body. I schedule 15-minute breaks in between sessions so that I have time to ground my body, drink water, and clear energy before the next session. I also have my own therapist and get bi-weekly massages.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I see a world with less suffering. A world where people use their pain and experience to transform to rise out of the ashes and live a more fulfilled life. Pain is inevitable, but by connecting to the wisdom and truth of the body, we can bear witness to our pain, learn from it and suffer less.
