Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melinda Jacobs, Founder of Quantum Therapeutics, located in Aurora, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an intuitive coach/clinical hypnotherapist supporting transformation personally and globally. I have worked with people in 46 countries around the world, supporting them through and beyond trauma and seeing them step into their best lives. This is done with my unique 3-fold approach of addressing trauma, helping clients uplevel skillsets (communication, self-care, boundaries, etc.), and using emotional integration to help people feel more whole within themselves. I have a personal YouTube channel, and I can also be found on the meditation app known as Insight Timer.

Tell us about yourself

I started learning about hypnotherapy after working many years as a massage therapist and massage therapy instructor. I have supported hundreds of people to heal past injuries sustained in auto and work-related accidents using my specialized massage training. I became interested in supporting deeper healing by addressing people's beliefs regarding themselves and the past trauma that directly impacted their healing. Dysfunctional beliefs are often born out of past trauma from childhood and actively impact our current lives - often not in a good way.

Through my own healing journey, I know definitively that past trauma and misguided beliefs affect people's bodies, mindsets, relationships, health, and finances. And because of my deep intuitive nature and connection with the realms of the Divine, I feel uniquely gifted to support people in ways that transcend traditional talk therapies. When I was 20, and in the depth of my own dysfunction, I set a deep intention for my life's work - I will be someone that sits with others in their own dark place and holds the light and truth for others until they can know it for themselves. This intention has continued to carry me through my own personal growth so that I can be that beacon of light for others.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My most recent accomplishment is the completion of my Badassery Oracle Deck. This initially started as a supplemental teaching tool to accompany the 9-month course I teach called The Highly Sensitive's Thriving Guide - a class I created from years of training to support highly sensitive and/or empathic people. The Badassery Oracle Deck evolved to become a powerful companion for anyone on a healing journey. It is filled with tips and tools to assist people who are looking to move through and beyond their past and step into their best life.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I have recently become more aware of my neurodiversity and have been diagnosed as autistic. Understanding my own unique personal needs to support a neurodiverse nervous system while balancing my passion for supporting others in their own healing has been a powerful experience that continues to better my own health and well-being while I continue to help others. This is where I appreciate the age-old understanding of 'put your oxygen mask on first before trying to assist others.'

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your own healing work. Your attitude and beliefs will forever impact how you show up, communicate, and the overall success (or lack thereof) of your business. Without understanding yourself, your relationship with others, your relationship with money, and how your personal challenges WILL translate to business challenges - you may never see or know the success that is possible.
  2. Get support. Whether it is an accountability group, a personal coach, a web designer, a branding specialist, or a therapist - we all need support, guidance, and coaching. The hardest part of my business was the number of years I tried to do it on my own and only spun my wheels in the mud with very little to show for all the struggle. Getting support and investing in my growth has exponentially reflected my business success and bottom line.
  3. Understand your why. Why do you want to do the business you are doing? And does it feed your soul? Aligning with my 'why' I do what I do adds fuel and passion to everything from meeting with my clients to how I show up in the world of social media and how I speak to others. If it doesn't excite you - find what does.
