Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kate Allgood, Founder of Quntum Performance Inc., located in San Diego, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We help athletes explore the upper edges of their potential to be able to thrive day to day and under pressure. Through mindset and mental performance training, we help athletes, organizations, and professionals increase their awareness of the steps and behaviors required to tap into a higher level of consciousness and performance. Clients range from high school, college, and Olympic and professional athletes. We have also worked with Marine fighter pilots and Navy Seals candidates.
Tell us about yourself
I was an Olympic-level ice hockey player before I started my business, and it is a big reason why I do the work I currently do with clients. I gained a passion for understanding the mind during my first year of undergrad and merged it with my passion for performance. I understand the demands elite-level athletes face and that often, the mind is left out of the equation or not trained to the degree it needs to be to truly thrive. I am passionate about helping athletes and other high performers develop their mental game, so they can let their physical skills be put on full display.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think being in business for over 12 years is a big accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The balance of where to put my energy and focus. There are a number of moving parts, and wanting to stay up to date on everything that goes into running a business sometimes is hard. Sometimes one area gets neglected as you focus on another area.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be passionate about what you are doing.
- Do a lot of research. You most likely will outsource many things to help run the business, but I think it is important to know as much as you can to help make sure you select the best person or agency to do the work. As well as make sure they are staying on track and delivering good results.
- Make sure you keep your battery charged. Meaning making sure you take care of yourself. Whether through exercise, eating right, or time off. You need to be at your best to help make your business a success. I know how easy it is to get sucked into all the work that has to be done and neglect some aspect of your own self-care.
