What's your business, and who are your customers?
Q11 Photography is a studio photography company that specializes in graduate, family, and headshot sessions.
Tell us about yourself
I began building Q11 Photography in 2016 while I was working full-time because I wanted to secure an alternate route in case things changed. Just as I expected, I was laid off in April of 2020 when the COVID pandemic hit and was immediate thrusts into full-time entrepreneurship. What keeps me motivated every day is the responsibility I have for my team members and my family. They have put their trust in me to lead and grow a business that they can be proud of and be a part of.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would say that my biggest accomplishment to date as a business owner would be providing my staff with full medical, dental, and vision benefits, along with a life insurance policy paid by the company.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest challenges of being a business owner is constantly balancing the needs of managing, challenging, and growing your team... while also trying to cater to, be appealing to, and grow your audience and customer base.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top 3 tips I would give to someone looking to start, run, and grow a business today are to build the business around solving a problem, build the business to run without you, and build a business that is able to pivot in case the original idea or target audience ends up being a bad idea.
