Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in app development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Hafiz Mitha, founder and CEO of PlayCity App, based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
PlayCity is a platform that connects people using technology offline. The idea is to use tech to help people put their phones away. App users download the app for free and connect with people, places, and events. Our customers are retailers, rec facilities, sport, and community organizations with similar mandates.
Tell us about yourself
I've been an entrepreneur for over 15 years. My goal has always been to add value and to serve the community. I get excited when I hear stories of connections that were made on the PlayCity app. The impact is the fuel that keeps us going.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We have helped create over 15,000 unique connections to date. A large percentage of our app users report that they are more active, happier, and enjoy an increased sense of well-being. We are very proud of that.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Managing the emotions that come with the highs and lows. Burnout, fatigue, and depression are part of the journey, but the lessons learned along the way are also gifts as well.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know that it is supposed to be insanely difficult and plan for it by taking care of yourself first and foremost.
- Be driven by something that is more than just money.
- Leverage/partner with others so you can focus on what you are best at.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
In a world that is constantly being divided, spending too much time online - our hope is that we can help people from different backgrounds connect in real life - using play as the medium.
