What's your background and motivation to grow as a solopreneur?
Health and fitness was my college job; I went to school for Fire Sciences and Emergency Medicine. I love to help other people shine. When I can be a part of others' lives and help them to feel, look, and perform better in all they do, my spirit is at peace, and my life feels fulfilling!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Providing gainful, fun, and rewarding employment and helping people manage and overcome injury and illness.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a solopreneur?
Holding people accountable.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?
Whatever your business is:
- Focus on trust in your community. Be the best you can at what you do and deliver on what you say and promise.
- Create a positive and encouraging employee culture by empowering people. Being mindful that policing can harm harmony and synergy.
- Pick the least amount of activities needed for success and do them everyday. Some days will be easy and some will challenge you greatly. Do the activities needed to succeed regardless.
If there was one thing you could do repeatedly to help grow your business, what would it be?
To get better at exposure of who we are and gain an opportunity to show how we can help. Just plainly and simply learn how to get the word out daily. 9 out of 10 qualified inquiries join our gym and half of those members become training clients. All of the training clients obtain results far beyond what they expected. I have so many video testimonials proving proof of life regarding client and member successes. I just have no profitably to use for advertising after COVID and the birth of our third son. We are actively working on this and making headway.
What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance and to keep it all together?
My wife and I work together. I am in our Real Estate office right now with our baby rocking him in the BabyBjorn. Our gym is right across the street. This morning the family all went together to drop off our 7 year old at 2nd grade. We went early to play on the playground. My family is my life and that is why my wife and I intentionally chose careers that support our full involvement within our family. It's beautifully hard and perfectly imperfect!
Who are some of your favorite entrepreneurs and best business resources/books?
Shaun King because his fight for social justice. A great book is Hardwiring Excellence by Quint Studer, The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, and the Lean Startup by Eric Ries. My support and social channels are ACSM, NASM, IDEA, @Omnibodyhealthcare, @dr.joelseedman_ahp, and @Clubhouse
