What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are Dickson's Local roaster. Pumphrey also serves Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and craft cocktails. Our customer base is very loyal following that has been with us since we were a food truck. We also have a significant following from our farmers' markets, where we sell whole-bean coffee and cold brew.
Tell us about yourself
I first fell in love with coffee when I was working for whole foods market. When I decided to leave, I knew I wanted to get back to coffee. Roasting is my main passion, but the business has taken me in a totally new direction. I fought it for some time, but once I let go, everything took off. It was never my intention to own a restaurant, but my past experience in food service prepared me for this journey. Things that motivate me every day. My passion for roasting and providing the community with a better product are my driving force.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Oh gosh... The scale of my business for sure.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about owning a business for me is the lack of boundaries the general public have for your personal time. For some reason, people feel they can message, call or email at all hours of the day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Let go of your expectations or business plan.
- Don't stress when things don't turn out 100% perfect.
- Don't change your quality to make certain numbers work.
