What's your business, and who are your customers?
Pulse Barre Studio is a locally owned exercise studio in Mechanicsville, VA. We offer barre classes for women at all different exercise levels.
Tell us about yourself
I began teaching exercise classes after I had my daughter in 2008, but it wasn’t until 2011, after I took my first barre class, that I fell in love with the exercise. At the time, my late husband was battling colorectal cancer, and we had two young children. We decided to open the studio during one of the toughest times of my life, and I am grateful every day that we did.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Still being open after COVID! Unfortunately, so many small businesses closed. We started an online program at that time, and it kept us in business and helped us to grow. We still have it today!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It can be challenging to find that work/life separation because you don’t really have any days off! But I love the flexibility that I have in making my own schedule and being able to work from home a lot.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Believe you can do it. There are going to be a lot of people out there that tell you that you’re crazy or that you won’t succeed. Don’t listen to them!
- Dream big. If you have the ability to get a bigger space for something similar, do it now! You will appreciate it later.
- Find good people that will have your back to help you! You can’t do this alone.
