Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with John M. Fischette, Business Coach & Consultant of Psyched for Business, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work with business leaders dealing with overwhelming responsibilities, burnout, and the frustration of running a company. Using a blend of psychology and business best practices from real-world experiences, I help them bring about transformational employee engagement to get the most from their teams & business. I work with small – medium-sized business leaders and professional groups that represent them. Additionally, I also speak about transformational leadership, team performance, and small business success. My presentations focus on helping leaders avoid overwhelm and burnout and build mutual trust that empowers them and their teams to do more.
Tell us about yourself
After studying psychology in college, I entered the business world. My education helped me succeed in sales and management. After helping a few businesses succeed, I decided to go out on my own and help others. I am motivated each day to help others obtain their goals, but more importantly, to do so without stress or overwhelm. Most people stress over their job. I help people approach their jobs differently to have a different experience with their work.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is when I am able to support another business leader in helping them maximize their company’s potential while reducing the stress and struggle they were previously experiencing. That is an awesome feeling!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Maintaining the role of an owner and not just becoming the business’s main employee. When that happens, you created a big job for yourself, not just a company. You will then only work in the business and not on your business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a plan. It’s okay to change the plan if needed down the road but DO NOT start out not knowing where you are going…you will just end up lost.
- Systematize. When you create systems for the processes in your business, you will improve efficiencies and profits.
- Document. When systems are documented, processes are replicated, thus delivering consistent quality to your customers.
3.1 - Connect. No matter what business you are in, you have to work with people. Thus, learn how to connect in an authentic way.
