People + Service = Profit - PSP Compass Solutions

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with James Lajoie, COO of PSP Compass Solutions, located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a digital marketing company offering in-depth digital marketing education and comprehensive business strategies to ensure your services and products reach your ideal target market. Our customers are businesses that understand the need for marketing but are not sure where to start or how to move forward from their current place to efficiently market their products or services.

Tell us about yourself

I come from a corporate background working with a Fortune 100 company and got into this industry through different roles that required me to learn about people and understand how to solve problems for them. Marketing is very closely tied to your ability to understand and manage relationships between clients, their customers, and prospective customers. I enjoy helping other business owners find the most efficient and effective way of doing this based on their unique situations and business. I love helping others understand their problems and also advancing their goals and moving forward. This can be a ripple effect where I help someone figure out a problem or obstacle, and with their new knowledge, they will help someone else do the same.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is how I have been able to put together a team of smart, intelligent people that all have the common goal of helping other business owners grow their businesses. My dedication and ongoing focus on quality and skills to understand a client's vision is something I work on myself every day and allow my team to bring to the table their perspectives and experience to enhance that goal for us internally and our clients.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Prioritizing and managing everything at once. As a business gets bigger, it comes with more moving pieces, more staff, and more clients you are always juggling and trying to provide the best experience for. Managing your time and prioritizing tasks and issues as they arise Is an ongoing struggle for myself and my business partner as we grow.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

You don't know what you don't know, always look for the answer; a lot of problems you may face are going to be unique to your situation, and finding other people to give awareness and perspective will help, but you may find that you still are stuck wondering what the best solution is. At that point, you do your due diligence, think it through, and if you are still unsure, you pick the decision you think would be best and move forward. Always look to serve the people that work for you and your clients. We get caught up sometimes going after our own goals. We forget what gets the most success, and that's helping yourself by focusing on helping others. Be patient and appreciate the little wins as much as possible.
