Tell us about yourself

My name is Christina, and I was born and raised in San Francisco, California. I moved to New York to attend Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry on a basketball and softball scholarship. After receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in behavioral science from Mercy College, I went on to receive my MBA in sports administration from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. I now have 15 years of business administration and management experience working in collegiate athletics at Stanford University, the University of San Francisco, and Mercy College. I currently live in Dobbs Ferry, NY, with my husband and two daughters.

Personally seeing the benefits of vitamin infusion and the lack of locations in Westchester, I decided to create a business that focused on making these treatments available to everyone. With heightened awareness of our healthy day-to-day health practices, opening prosperIV is important now more than ever. IV vitamin infusions work to keep people healthy but also looking and feeling their best.

I decided to create prosperIV after suffering from mononucleosis. I was prescribed high-dose vitamin C IV treatments, which not only alleviated her symptoms but also quickened the healing process. After personally discovering the benefits of vitamin drips and seeing the lack of vitamin services locations in Westchester, I decided to establish the first stand-alone vitamin IV spa that focused on making these services available to everyone in the area. I was able to accomplish this and bring prosperIV to life in March 2020 — at the height of the pandemic — with a lot of hard work, dedication, and belief.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Opening this business at the height of the pandemic and opening three more locations in less than two years.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There is never enough time in the day. There is always something I can do to make my company better. There is always room for growth, and the biggest challenge that comes with growth is never being satisfied; systems and processes are key to the success of a business with multiple locations, and these processes are constantly evolving. The bigger we get, the more there is to do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be confident - don't let anyone tell you, you can't do it. If you believe in your idea and are willing to work hard all the time, you will see success. Believe in yourself. My Dad used to tell me all the time, "don't let the turkeys get you down." I try to remember that daily.
  2. Don't play in the Mud! There can be so many distractions that are just not worth your time. I had a great boss in my previous "career life" who reminded our team daily, "Don't play in the mud." It is harder than you think and easy to get caught up. But silly distractions will only slow you down from reaching your goals. Lead by example and stay away from the drama.
  3. Surround yourself with a great team. Your team is key to success. There is no way you will grow and be successful if you try to do everything on your own. Find people you trust, move on from people who disappoint you, but most of all, work with people who you can learn from. You don't need to be the smartest person in the room, but you do need to be the one who is willing to learn from everyone and every experience.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Starting your own business is hard and can be very lonely. But building a team of people you respect and who support you will replace all the negatives. Stay strong and believe in yourself. If this was easy, everyone would do it. Be willing to learn from others; you don't know everything.
