Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Annie Ruden, founder, and CEO of Pronunciation Pro, located in Gilbert, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Pronunciation Pro Online Training Program helps non-native English speakers learn to speak American English clearly and with greater confidence. We help people from all over the world overcome their insecurities and limitations because of a foreign accent and help them speak English in a way that fills them with incredible confidence!

Tell us about yourself

I'm a licensed Speech Language Pathologist and geek out about all things communication. I'm fascinated with the power of communication and the way it connects us as human beings from all over the world. I first started helping non-native English speakers because I fell in love with their grit and determination to be successful in life. I have incredible respect and admiration for those who have to work so hard against this language barrier of speaking a language different than their mother tongue. It builds resilience and an unmatched work ethic. Help them remove the language barrier, and it's so fun to watch them soar!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Over the last 14 years, I've helped over 10,000 students through my online program. My biggest accomplishment is seeing my students build the skill and confidence to go on to use their voices to do their unique and powerful work in this world. I've had students get incredible jobs, start podcasts and YouTube channels, and realize their dreams for their life and career. I'm grateful to be a part of their journey to unlock their voice!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Finding people to work with who you can trust and who will deliver results.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something you're passionate about because every time you get knocked down (and you will repeatedly), the passion will help you get back up again. The businesses that win out are those that won't quit.
  2. Master the skill of sales and marketing or have trustworthy people who can get those results consistently.
  3. Always be ready to adapt yourself, your team, and your business to the ever-changing business landscape and the challenges you'll meet.
