Family Friendly, Affordable, & Accessible - Prometheus Pizza
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christopher Stephens, founder of Prometheus Pizza, located in Fredericksburg, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Prometheus Pizza is a food truck opening a brick & mortar in Fredericksburg, Texas. Our guests are anyone who loves pizza! We use freshly milled flour and source excellent products, so our pizza tastes good and is good for you!
Tell us about yourself
We started making pizzas and gave them away to family and friends with comment cards to mail back in January 2020. When we got to a place where we thought our pizza was good, we started selling it via Instagram and word of mouth. By the time the pandemic hit and closed everything down in May 2020, we had an underground pizza delivery business. Our goal is to provide Fredericksburg with the kind of food and experience that they like, which is tasty food, a fun atmosphere, and excellent hospitality.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Surviving was a necessity during the pandemic, but thriving is a gift and response from locals and tourists. We have been rated the best restaurant in Fredericksburg, and we're just a food truck! and we were in Texas Monthly in the dining spotlight in August 2021.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
We do everything from payroll to ordering to making the food. The most difficult thing is the staffing and retaining good employees who are motivated to represent your product.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Danny Meyer, quintessential restaurateur, says in Setting the Table, I can't means I won't. Put yourself in the position to figure everything out. Approach under the hood of your car with the attitude that you can figure anything out and figure out how to fix it yourself.
- Think of your product as redefining a term. It's not a bandage; it's a Band-Aid. It's not a tissue; it's a Kleenex. It's not pizza; it's Prometheus.
- Your customer (guest) is the hero of the story, not you (Storybrand). Link this idea to hospitality (Unreasonable Hospitality), and you'll beat your competition.
