Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Charlie Horton, Founder of Pro-Chef, located in Biloxi, MS, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is a personal chef service. I come to the customer's home and cook everything in their own house. My services are all-inclusive, meaning I take care of the menu making, grocery shopping, prepping, cooking, and cleaning up. My customers are usually people that want to book a chef for an event—birthday parties, dinner parties, anniversaries, etc.
Tell us about yourself
I first started cooking when I joined the military in 2017. My dad usually cooked every night for my siblings and me in high school, and he always had a way of making dinner time an experience. That's what sparked my interest in not only creating awesome dishes but providing an experience.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Establishing my business in my community would be my biggest accomplishment. It was a lot of work to start my business but worth it in the long run.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing I would say would be the lack of business. Establishing yourself in your local community can be very difficult at times. Especially in today's world of COVID-19 and the economy, people are hesitant to have a stranger in their home.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be patient. Take action. Think about what you want your business to be like in 5 to 10 years from now and work towards that.
