Dominate the Inner Mental Game - Prime Performance

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Austin Halcomb, Founder and CEO of Prime Performance Coaching, LLC., located in Indianapolis, IN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Prime Performance Coaching, LLC, working as a Certified Mental Performance Coach. My typical clientele base is athletes, coaches, and people in business who are looking to better their performance and reach their full potential.

Tell us about yourself

I originally heard about the field of sport psychology while taking a sport psychology class at Indiana University in Bloomington during my undergraduate degree. The mental side of athletics was one thing I had struggled with growing up, and I knew from the early parts of getting into this field that this was my calling and something I was instantly passionate about. My true motivation lies in helping others to see their full potential, reach that potential, and then while training both the mental and the physical, we start to see breakthroughs and growth - ultimately taking them to newer heights.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment for me is just doing it and taking all of the risks that I have. When I first started out, the field of mental health was relatively taboo and not spoken much of. There wasn't a great job outlook at the time I started, either. Taking the leap and not only getting into the field but also starting your own business in it (during a global pandemic, nonetheless) and then making it successful is something I am really proud of.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, one of the hardest things is being able to be patient with the process. Everyone wants to find out how to become successful quickly, and sometimes that isn't the best model for long-term success. Creating a path in an area of this field that hasn't been created before has been relatively difficult, with no direct blueprint to follow, but I know that I will look back and be happy to have been a trailblazer for the model of sport psychology that I am currently working to create and develop.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get connected. Your connection base can play a huge piece in your current and future success.
  2. Understand there are going to be failures. I can't tell you how many times I have had a minor or major setback and wondered if I was really set up for success. Every failure has led me to exactly where I want to be, and it's all a part of the process.
  3. Be grateful for those around you and those that support your growth. I definitely could be better at this, but I try really hard to be grateful for the people who have gotten me here and who continue to support me even in the most minimal ways, especially my parents.
