Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Azalee Maslow, founder, and CEO of PrettyAF, located in Henderson, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a personal branding coach and the Founder of PrettyAF. PrettyAF is a philanthropic lifestyle, brand, podcast, and community. We work with multi-passionate female entrepreneurs that want to step into being a speaker, authors, or content creators. I believe every woman should have the opportunity to do what she loves, and I know personal branding and digital marketing is a fast track to make that possible.

Tell us about yourself

Growing up, I believed that if you work hard, opportunities will come your way, and your hard work will pay off. So I went to school to get my Masters in Journalism and Media Studies and worked in media for over 10 years. After being passed upon for countless opportunities, I realized that this isn't true. Luckily, we live in an age where the internet makes it possible for anyone to create their own opportunities. So that's what I did for myself and what I help countless other women do for themselves. Seeing my clients loving their lives motivates me every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The ripple effect that the work I do causes. The more women that I help do what they love, the more people they will help, and the more people those people can help.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You have to be incredibly resilient. I think that's why the people that have been through really hard things tend to make the most successful business owners...because they're already equipped with those skills.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stop thinking about it and just start it already. You're not going to learn anything by thinking. You'll figure it out as you go.
  2. You don't have to do this alone. Learn from people that are doing what you want to do. Buy their books, courses, or coaching. If you can't afford it, consume their free content until you can (podcast, blog, social media posts).
  3. Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. If you have a dream, and the people around you aren't supportive of it, find a new group of people to be around. Stop sharing your dreams with people that don't support you. Share your dreams with people that encourage you, celebrate you, and challenge you to think even bigger.
