Tell us about yourself

Prenatal Fit was started out of the need to support women before, during, and after their pregnancy. Through my own experience, I had gone through my pregnancy and had my firstborn and saw the lack of support I received. I would attend my midwife appointments, give urine, give blood, and get measured, and I was asked a few questions and sent on my way.

This wasn't enough for me, and I found out that I wasn't the only one that felt that way. I felt alone and scared at such a life-changing time in my life. If anything, this was when I needed the most guidance. This was my inspiration for opening my gym Prenatal Fit.

Being pregnant and giving birth is not a walk in the park; we need to be ready for this big challenge. I compare it to preparing for a marathon. You wouldn't run a marathon without training; the same thing for giving birth. You have to train the muscles of your body and be mentally prepared for the big 'push day.' After having your baby, you need also to have the physical strength to take care of the baby, for example: carrying the baby, stroller, car seat, and diaper bag. We're helping our members get ready for this new role and preparing for the challenges that await them with being a new mother.

Our mission is to help women stay strong not only physically but mentally through their pregnancies and to build a strong support group of mothers for postpartum. Postpartum depression is there and rarely discussed. Our gym is to help women in these hard times and be that helping hand to say, "It's ok; you are going to get through this." We are all experiencing similar anxieties, and together we are stronger than being alone. I'm motivated every day by seeing the many happy new members becoming mothers with strong foundations to start their new families and building a strong supportive mom community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment is the strong mom community that we have built over the nine years in business and continue to build. Another Accomplishment is we survived through covid by adding our virtual program; we were still able to provide high-quality education and safe physical fitness to our members through that difficult time having a virtual option. Presently Our virtual program is still very popular amongst our members.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is balancing time with my family and work. Also, keeping up with social media advertising.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Listen to what the client is asking for-it's not what you want; it's what your members want.
  2. Keeping your Staff happy they are what will keep your business a success.
  3. Self care-having your one day off, getting monthly massages, and vacations a must so you can refresh your batteries.
