Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dave Howell, owner, and president of Premier USA, Inc., located in Muskogee, OK, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The primary focus of Premier USA, Inc is staffing. Our goal is to assist our clients in a variety of areas, with a much broader scope than just staffing. Through our diverse experience and family of businesses, we are able to assist with additional areas of need, such as marketing, consulting, audio/video/lighting, music & video production, streaming services, and other professional services. Our philosophy of business is simple, to help people in their area of need. Our entire family of business offerings can be found at www.davehowell.org.
Tell us about yourself
In 2015, my wife, Tammye, and I decided to combine our 50+ combined years of business experience to create a new company. The result was Premier USA, Inc.; a company that specializes in staffing and consulting. She is truly the superstar in Premier USA. She drives the daily operations and helps ensure that our team stays on track. Each day, we pray and consider what we could do to help someone else. Regardless of the area of need, our goal is to help or, in some cases, facilitate the help.
In addition to Premier USA, Inc, we also pastor a non-denominational church, which we planted in 2000. It is called The Bridge at Christ Church. I lead a humanitarian organization, Project Dream Seeds, that focuses on assisting underserved children. I also work with our son, Austin, as he leads our AVL & production companies - Howell Sound, Howell AVL, & NOAH Media. I am an accomplished musician, proficient in piano & guitar, as well as a singer & songwriter. I speak across the nation in a variety of settings; encouraging individuals, families, and business owners to find their greatest strengths and utilize those strengths to yield a measurable success. In 2019, I released my first book. "The Other Side" which is a book about overcoming obstacles and winning in life. My most recent business effort was the purchase of a large tract of land set to build a housing development. My parents also work with our companies. My father serves in the finance department; while my mom has the most important role of all - to pray over us, our clients and our employees.
I am constantly looking for entrepreneurial opportunities which will allow my skill set to foster a climate of encouragement and enrichment in families, businesses and communities. My motto is "Dream. Dream Big. Dream Often." My favorite scripture is Ephesians 3:20, "Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think." Regardless of any mark of success that I might achieve in this life, all glory goes to God. It is absolutely His power and grace that has made it possible to be where I am, and walk where I walk. www.davehowell.org www.premierusajobs.com
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Watching our team, clients and employees succeed in life. If we do our job, those around us will thrive. Premier USA's very first year and every year since has been a huge success with marginal profits. Throughout the pandemic, economic rollercoaster, and financial uncertainties, we've been able to keep the doors open and expand our footprint to include multiple locations.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is the sheer physical limitations imposed by my body and the clock on the wall. I want to go and do - every day. Being patient, while sometimes frustrating, can be the best order of business. It is critically important to know where and when to make your next move. The learning curve can be difficult at times. Regardless of what you went to college for, you may find a need for a completely different set of skills. You can't simply go back to college every time you need to tackle a problem. Thankfully, the internet has provided some very helpful hints that at least can point you in the right direction. Starting, owning, and running a successful business can be very challenging.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do your homework. Know what you're getting into. Know your market. Know your product. Most importantly, know what your target client needs to succeed.
- Find qualified partners, associates, and employees. You're putting it all on the line. Make sure the people that you're trusting to go with you understand your goals, purpose, vision, and strategies.
- Pray and trust God. There are times when all of your knowledge, skill, experience, contacts, friends, and family will fall short of supplying the strength that you need. Sometimes, God is the only one who can help.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Dream Big, and don't let anyone tell you what can't be done. Find people who believe you can do anything. Feed yourself on positive, productive, wholesome, Godly, faith-filled information, then let those seeds produce a harvest of success in your life.
