Tell us about yourself
I've always been fascinated with the art of storytelling. Whether through music, visual arts, or theater, I've always been drawn to the idea of sharing the dreams and stories that swirl around in my mind. It wasn't long before I realized that my passion for self-expression would require me to dedicate myself to the craft. During my high school years, I attended Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, FL, where I honed my skills as an actor. As a Musical Theatre Major, I was surrounded by an environment dedicated to crafting and cultivating the artist within each of its students. The experience gave me my first taste of what it was like to be a working artist, pouring myself entirely into the development of performance. After four years, I emerged from Dreyfoos as a better storyteller, ready to take on the next chapter of my artistic journey. I faced a decision familiar to many artists: whether to pursue my dreams or take a safer, more traditional route. For me, the answer was clear. I knew that to fulfill my true potential, I had to audition for Webster University's BFA theater program, where I was accepted as a Musical Theater major. Webster's program was a four-year intensive conservatory-style experience that consumed every moment of my waking day. From the time I opened my eyes to the moment I closed them, I was dedicated to honing my craft. The curriculum was designed to cultivate and refine our artistry, with courses ranging from music theory and theater history to Alexander Movement Technique.
Despite my best efforts, however, I heard whispers amongst the faculty that I wasn't progressing in the way that they wanted me to. It was a sobering realization, one that was ultimately confirmed at the end of my second year when I was informed that I would not be asked to continue with the program. It was a crushing blow, but it forced me to dig deep and find the determination necessary to pursue my dreams despite the odds. I decided to move to New York to pursue my dream of becoming a professional actor. I knew that this new challenge would be the baptism by fire that I needed to reach my goals. Booking a job in Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular was a turning point in my career, and it proved to me that my hard work and dedication had paid off.
For over twenty years, I have had the privilege of working with some of the biggest names and companies in the entertainment business. I have had the honor of sharing the stage with icons like Gregory Hines and Pitbull and have even had the opportunity to originate a role in an Off-Broadway show. These experiences have allowed me to grow and develop as an artist, pushing me to explore new creative avenues and expand my skill set. In 2019, my wife and I made the decision to leave Los Angeles and create PowerFigure Productions, a company that embodies our passions for the arts and allows us to share our creative skills with others. Our mission is to help individuals, families, groups, and businesses share their unique stories with the world. Whether it's through photography, videography, social media management, or content creation, I hope to bring the power of storytelling to the incredible community in which we live. I want to help people share their stories, connect with others, and inspire change. I believe that everyone has a voice, and I want to help them share it with the world.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I'm proud to say that my biggest accomplishment has been building and growing the business from scratch. Starting a business is never easy, but it's been a labor of love for me. One of my proudest moments was when I landed my first client. It was a small local business that needed some help with its social media presence and branding. I remember being so excited that someone trusted me with their vision and that I was able to deliver results that exceeded their expectations. Since then, I've been able to build a solid client base and have helped many individuals, families, and businesses bring their ideas and visions to life through photography, videography, graphic design, and social media management.
Another big accomplishment has been developing a reputation for high-quality work and exceptional customer service. I take great pride in providing my clients with personalized attention and ensuring that they are completely satisfied with the final product. Finally, I'm proud to have been able to make a positive impact in my community. By showcasing the beauty of the area through my work, I've been able to help elevate the perception of the community and the people who call it home. All in all, I believe that my biggest accomplishment has been building a business that I'm proud of and that makes a positive impact on the lives of my clients and my community.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As a small business owner, there are certainly many challenges that come my way. One of the hardest things, I would say, is having to wear so many different hats. When you're the only person running a business, you have to be the accountant, the marketer, the creative director, and everything in between. It can be overwhelming at times, trying to juggle all these different responsibilities. Another challenge that I face is finding a work-life balance. As the only person running PowerFigure Productions, it can be hard to switch off and take time for myself. It's important to be disciplined with my time and set boundaries, but it's not always easy. Ultimately, I believe that these challenges are what make me a stronger business owner. By facing them head-on and finding ways to overcome them, I'm constantly growing and learning as an entrepreneur.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- First and foremost, do your research. You need to know your market, your competitors, and your target audience. Take the time to really understand the industry you're entering and the challenges you may face. It's important to have a clear vision and plan before you start your business.
- Secondly, be adaptable and open to change. As a business owner, you need to be able to pivot quickly and adjust your strategy if something isn't working. Be open to feedback and be willing to make changes to your business model if necessary.
- Lastly, don't be afraid to ask for help. Building a business can be a daunting task, and you don't have to do it alone. Reach out to mentors, other business owners, and industry experts for advice and guidance. Joining a networking group or finding a mentor can be incredibly helpful in providing support and helping you navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.
By doing your research, being adaptable, and seeking help when needed, you can set yourself up for success as a business owner.
