Relaxation of the Body and Mind - Power of the Present
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Daniel Smith, founder of Power of the Present, located in Millville, NJ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Power of the Present is a platform designed to promote the amazing benefits of yoga, yoga Nidra, and meditation. When we are present in each moment, we make that moment the focus of our awareness instead of being lost in thoughts of the past or the future. When we are lost in thought, not only are we putting thought in front of the experience of life, but we also suffer in some aspects because our attention is split between thought and present moment awareness. Power of the present is about offering tools to help get back to the present moment.
Tell us about yourself
I started practicing yoga to find relief from chronic back pain, but I quickly discovered how beneficial it could be mentally, which made me decide to teach yoga. Yoga and meditation, especially pranayama (breathing techniques), helped cure my anxiety and allowed me to cultivate the tools I needed to handle stress, which made me want to teach it to anyone willing to listen! I love practicing, talking, and teaching yoga and really anything dealing with self-improvement or healing. I love to learn and challenge myself, so that is what gets me up and going every morning.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Providing people with the tools they need to become the best version of themselves.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
There is no safety net. It's not an hourly job, it's more like an every-hour job. I'm the only person running it, so it can get hectic sometimes.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
You have to be open and honest as you go through the process. You have to be able to adjust when things don't work the way you had planned, and you have to be flexible. If you can't roll with the punches, it will burn you out real quick.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I also own a small business with my brother called Conscious Critter Removal. Our mission is to create harmony between human beings and the critters that live amongst them.
