Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pam Pure, Co-Founder and CEO of Posterity Health, located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Posterity Health is the only digital male fertility clinic that empowers males to learn about their fertility and take action. Today 1/6 couples have trouble conceiving, and 50% of the time, there is a male factor involved. The current fertility journey places the burden of care on the female partner, and on average, it takes the male 22 months to obtain a simple semen analysis. Our goal is to unite the couple early in the process and to promote the simultaneous evaluation of both partners. The end result – we help every couple find their fastest path to pregnancy. Posterity Health offers a combination of virtual visits, at-home diagnostics, and in-person consults to help assess and improve a male’s fertility status.

Tell us about yourself

I co-founded the company with Dr. Barrett Cowan, a renowned male fertility specialist (and also my husband). I have spent my career in healthcare technology, leading innovative clinical companies. Barrett has spent his career treating males with infertility challenges. During Covid, he started caring for couples using telehealth. We realized that males prefer care from home and built a full technology platform to make it easy for males to get the information they need and to ask questions about their fertility. We’ve expanded the platform to help couples assess their fertility with an at-home semen analysis kit. We’ve expanded nationally, and every month we help thousands of males understand their fertility and take steps to optimize their sperm quality. Our physicians are specialty-trained reproductive urologists. They are typically difficult to find and hard to see, which is why we’ve created a new model – access to the experts in 72 hours or less – personalized, comprehensive care.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Recruiting an amazing team – we have the largest team of Reproductive Urologists – they are providing care across the country. The clinical experts are supported by a great group of clinical care specialists who use our technology to accelerate care and connect with every couple struggling to conceive.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Uncertainty – our model is new, and no one talks about Male Fertility. On top of that, there are a lot of unnecessary stigmas – even though infertility is not a reflection of a male’s virility! Infertility is a health condition, and 50% of couples who struggle to conceive require care. We must provide a great deal of education and carefully invite the male to become an active participant in the fertility journey.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a plan so you can get started and stay focused, but make sure you adjust the plan – things will not go as predicted. Understanding the market and your customers will help you modify and tweak plans to meet their needs.
  2. Hire people who are passionate about your mission. Energy accelerates growth.
  3. When you are focused on innovation, it’s important to understand the gaps in the current process – so you can creatively innovate and immediately show incremental value.
