Spiritual Sanctuary - Posada Natura
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Vanessa Caldarelli, co-founder, and CEO of Posada Natura, located in Londres, Puntarenas, Costa Rica.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Our business focuses on holistic health in relationship with environmental health. We provide healing programs that weave together indigenous wisdom and healing with western psychological health practices. Our programs take place in the heart of the Costa Rican rainforest. An integral part of our programs involves deeply immersive and connecting experiences in nature, which bring participants into our partners’ 7,500 acres of rainforest wildlife refuge.
Tell us about yourself
We developed our business based on the observation that the decrease in the mental and emotional health of our species appears to have a correlation to the declining health of our planet. We designed our programs to heal mental and emotional affliction by bringing people into connection with nature. People receive healing through seeing their intrinsic connection to the natural world and thus begin to take better of the planet. As this happens, the planet heals. We believe this is a positive feedback loop. I am motivated every single day to keep our business alive because I see immediate and major transformations in the happiness, peace, release, and lifestyle choices of our clients. I am incredibly fortunate to witness people go back into their day-to-day lives with a newfound way of interacting with others, our planet, and themselves. I am fueled by this reward.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a businesses owner has been successfully integrating supporting the health of human beings with supporting the health of our planet. Starting a business is incredibly hard work and involves high levels of the organization and administrative responsibilities that can be taxing to the nervous system and stress levels. Pushing through these difficulties to achieve a result that deeply benefits people and our planet is the greatest accomplishment I could imagine.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a small business owner can mean doing the job of 5 people. There is so much involved on every level of business, from finance to product to employee management to online management. Every facet of the company is strung together by the owners into a perfectly knit web which can sometimes only be fully comprehended by the owner who created the web. There has to be consistent oversight over this web to make sure all of its threads remain strung together. This calls for an amazing amount of space in one’s mind and thoughts and an ability to maintain high levels of the organization.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Delegate, delegate, delegate. Find competent people who you trust to work with you and delegate tasks to them based on their skill sets. Do not try to do everything on your own (even if you do it best!) because, in the end, you won’t be able to get anything done, and you will overwork and burn out. Running a business is far too much work for one person. Learning to delegate saved my mental health and stress levels.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Do something that benefits everyone, not just yourself. Our world needs this type of generosity from its leaders. And business owners are leaders.
