What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an online mental healthcare company. Our customers are American Indian Tribes, Primary Care Clinics, School Districts, and Employers.

Tell us about yourself

I came out of retirement to help this small company. One out of four Americans is struggling with anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. My personal mission statement is to help people, have fun, and make money, so this business allows me to continue to contribute.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We are a start-up, so our biggest accomplishment so far is finishing our website and signing our first significant contract.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

With a start-up, I think it's an emotional rollercoaster. On any given day, there are huge wins and losses, huge ups and downs. Embracing all of it is my key to staying mentally healthy. Everything that happens is a lesson, an opportunity for me to learn and grow, not only about the market but about myself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Conceive. Believe. And achieve. A good friend of mine, a guy who has raised over a billion dollars and started many companies, told me that what makes him different from most is his comfort with ambiguity. He has figured out how to dance with uncertainty. At my age, I've learned that great things almost always happen just after I'm ready to call it quits. Persist. Don't give up. Trust that just beyond the curve in the road, there is an opportunity you can't see yet.
