What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are the father/daughter formulating duo, Wayne and Rachel, co-owners of Polish Your Parts. Our skincare products are plant-based, and a majority are vegan. Every product is formulated and manufactured by us in small batches to effectively solve your skincare needs. We believe in using only the highest quality ingredients, laughter, and love. Formulating skincare products that make your skin healthy, radiant, and beautiful brings us great satisfaction. Today is the day to ditch your skincare products packed with harmful chemicals! Tell us about yourself

We both have a passion for improving people's lives and solving problems. We decided to merge our past life experience of product development and graphic design to formulate effective skincare free of harmful chemicals. In order to elevate our skills, we needed to go back to school and learn how to formulate and create more advanced emulsions. There is a lot of chemistry involved that we needed to learn. Our Diploma in Organic Skincare Formulation from Formula Botanica, an award-winning and accredited international institution, has equipped us with the knowledge to formulate quality, high-end facial and body skincare products. Knowing we are making a difference in our customers' lives with our effective plant-based skincare products motivates us every day. Our journey has been very rewarding, and it allows us to spend quality time together.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The secret to living a meaningful, passionate life is helping others. Hearing customer success stories of how our skincare products are helping them is truly rewarding. The most memorable note we received was from a woman that had been in a serious car accident many, many years ago. She explained after using our Revitalizing Face Serum, bits of windshield glass were working their way out of her cheek. These were pieces of glass the surgeon had not removed. She included a picture of the bits of glass to see for ourselves. Customers have shared how our products solved their skincare issues that medication from their doctor couldn't fix. Believe in the power of plants!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You're not going to get it correct every time, and that's alright because those are teaching moments for yourself and everyone else watching. Embrace patience and failure; they are your new friends. Be patient; you learn more from failure, so be open to it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Ask your customers what problems they need to be solved. If you don't know your customers' needs, you are wasting money and time. You can't buy more time, so use it wisely. Before formulating a new product, we first ask our customers what skin issues they need solving.
Be prepared. The supply chain since COVID has had a significant impact on the availability of packaging and ingredients along with delayed delivery dates. In order to keep your business running optimally, have a backup plan to your backup plan. Try new vendors before you need them and evaluate their quality in case you need to use them in a pinch. Order supplies well before you run low. The quality of your business will not be affected because you have done your homework and are prepared when the need be.
Surround yourself with a positive support system and join a networking group. We belong to Johnson County Business Partners (JCBP) and can't imagine where Polish Your Parts would be without each member's expertise. As a support system, they are our front-row cheerleaders, providing encouragement as we grow and evolve as a business. Each JCBP member enthusiastically participates in one of our focus groups, providing honest feedback during product development. When we have business questions, JCBP members share solutions that work for their businesses. JCBP members are our ambassadors, continually sharing with their circles how Polish Your Parts products are making their skin healthier.

We are excited to announce a new product; our Green Tea Cream Cleanser will launch in mid-July. It is formulated with potent anti-aging ingredients to give you naturally healthy, vitalized, hydrated skin. Close to fifty individuals made up this focus group. A common review was how well it removes stubborn eye makeup, which excited the focus group. They shared that their face felt instantly soft and smooth, and they did not dry or dull their skin. Some shared that their acne and dry patches went away. The focus group was in agreement that the scent was uplifting and made them look forward to washing their face. The Green Tea Cream Cleanser does not contain synthetic foaming agents. These agents are added by companies for perception purposes to make you think your face is being cleaned while, in reality, the natural oils are stripped from your skin. Use the power of plants to make your skin healthier.
