What's your business, and who are your customers?
PMSO LLC is a personal and business development consulting firm. My customers are mostly women over 50 who are stepping into being entrepreneurs in some form or fashion. Some of our customers are people who have existing businesses that got themselves in trouble and need to reorganize with a second set of eyes in addition to understanding what their options are. The third set of clients is in real estate investments who are on the verge of losing their money because of improper filing of liens on loans made to a borrower and associated events within that deal. Our fourth set of clients are people who require help with setting up trusts to protect their assets to avoid probate. Our goal is to stop financial harm to business owners and investors.
Tell us about yourself
Hi. My name is Jinean Florom, and I am someone who fights for the underdog when it comes to business and entrepreneurship. When I was attending University, I got a gig working for a Real Estate Probate Attorney and stayed with that firm for 23 years. My passion for helping others overcome obstacles showed me that solutions are in the problems, and sometimes people need some help to see the solutions when they get themselves in trouble. As I was growing up within this legal field, I realized that there are people out there who need advocates and mediators to help them get their foot in the door with lawyers, so I became that person to help them set up a case file to be reviewed by a legal professional for claims within the legal system. Subsequently, that work landed me case file management for large lawsuits, RICO cases, and more. I enjoy helping people navigate their potential legal matters and guiding them to lawyers who can help them. Sometimes, when a client feels they may have a claim, and after reviewing their paperwork, I can also help them understand their options if they decide they would prefer not to go to a lawyer or cannot because their claim doesn't have sufficient evidence to move forward. I do one case a year for indigent people who fell out of the system. I enjoy working with larger groups of people who have been wronged and are seeking help to put a case together. In addition, I enjoy doing Zoom calls to show people the rungs in the ladder of how the city, state, and federal government systems work when it comes to filing claims within a government system. Many people do not fully grasp when they are financially harmed and how to navigate that loss. I enjoy helping people understand how simple it is to do and guiding them on that journey. Most of my work is done behind the scenes.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishments as a business owner are many. My nickname in real estate is the Erin Brockovich of Real Estate because I've made it my job to put a stop to corruption within the Flipping Business Industry. In my current work since 2015 with a team of people, we have gotten five grand jury indictments that have been investigated, tried, and convicted for people who have ponied funds from private money investors for over 40 million dollars. The average Ponzi indictment has landed the culprits a prison term for an average stay of 22 to 24 years. As a case file manager of 423 clients against Armando Montelongo Seminars, who has taken our clients for over $111 Million actual dollars in bogus sales of seminars and upsells. I actually put this case together and got three big law firms to represent our clients on a contingency. We are nearing the end of a successful 7-year trek of putting the kibosh on this business that did substantial financial harm to our clients. That win and treble damages settlement coming up next year will be one of the biggest accomplishments in my career. I cannot wait to see the joy of the clients who get their money back and move forward.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is the roller coaster ride I've experienced in a solution-based business. Why? Because as times change, if I am not on top of the business changes, I cannot provide services that change with the times. So what I have done is develop niche market services that no one wants to do and hit those hard and provide the services that no one wants to do to help small business owners get the help they need to move forward, whatever that may be. I can only do what I know. I choose to do that well. Over the years, I've learned to talk about those things that no one likes to talk about to help guide them out of their darkness because I've been there, and it's quite painful. In today's environment, we are all learning to tread and navigate waters that none of us have treaded before. That is the new order of business. That's where I'm coming from.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- 1. If you come to me and ask me for money to start your business from an idea you have, I would simply say, have you tried doing the business without start-up money? And how did that work for you?
Result: Good businesses often do not need start-up funds to make money. It's not a good idea to lend to ideas that may or may not be feasible. What catches my eye are those people who started from nothing and built their personal business empires on their skillsets that served them - which involved service to others. - My second tip would be time management. How's your time management?Result: If you are really contemplating being a business owner, it's going to be imperative that you have a handle on your time management. Follow through and walking your talk are vital for credibility. You lose credibility; you lose clients. There is no such thing these days in business that separates your personal and business life. They are intertwined. It's vital for a business owner to understand this because one will affect the other no matter what, and it's foolish to think separating those two factors can actually be done.
- Are you living within your means?
Result: Sometimes, people who are entrepreneurs get credit cards, buy new cars and big houses, and even rent office space that makes them "appear" bigger than they are. Most of the time, those expenses have no backbone to what the business can support. Status doesn't come from what people can see. There is often deception in that. It's what you can do to perform for the client that makes or breaks your business. Relationships matter, not stuff.
Result: If you live within your means, you can walk your talk and gain credibility because you show the client that you are a good manager of money. And the bottom line of being a consultant for businesses is to walk the talk you provide the service for. Actions always speak louder than words. And time always tells the truth. Glam can be short-lived. Bling is expensive. Happiness is fleeting. Joy, on the other hand, cannot be taken away from you when you are doing what is in the highest and best good of others every single day.
