Evidence-Based Vegan Nutrition - Plantfull Pleasures Nutrition

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Claudia DeSantis, Founder of Plantfull Pleasures Nutrition, located in Wildomar, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a functional nutritionist with an MS in Clinical Nutrition holding the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) credential. I highly specialize in plant-based nutrition and work with clients presenting conditions such as metabolic disorders, GI disorders, thyroid and general hormone imbalances, and autoimmune conditions. I also support people transitioning successfully into a plant-based diet.

Tell us about yourself

I transitioned into a vegetarian to then vegan diet back in 2008 for ethical reasons, but I had no idea about what I was doing nutritionally. I still consumed dairy and eggs for some time while I tried to learn more and more about how to eat healthily without any animal products. After I ditched all dairy and eggs, I started blending smoothies with greens, nuts, and seeds, which led me to optimal health that I had never experienced before, despite being considered "healthy" by allopathic standards. After working years in a GI clinic and seeing the state of people's health, I knew I had to enter the functional nutrition world to support individuals in learning how to eat properly to nourish and sustain good health as opposed to feeding disease.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Financially wise, my business is still very new. But as of the nature of my practice, my greatest accomplishment was with my recent first oncology patient having a significant decrease in PSA levels in less than a month following my individualized protocol before any medical intervention. I am very motivated to support more cancer clients.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

In my case is working alone. It is an incredible opportunity to be able to run a business from home. However, I miss the in-person interactions of a large clinic with colleagues and patients. This isolation throws me out of balance a little bit, and I still need a lot of adjustment to do to show up even better for my clients and business affairs.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure your "why" is bigger than just making money and that your talents may serve the world while you get justly compensated for it.
  2. Read Steven Pressfield's "The War of Art."
  3. If possible, have a partner or partners that share the same world vision, are trustworthy, and are fun to work with.
