The Modern Man's Guide to Style - Pivot Image Consulting

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in style & grooming but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Patrick M Kenger, Founder & Personal Stylist of Pivot Image Consulting, located in Scottsdale, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

In a nutshell - I make great guys look good. I run an image consulting firm that works with men worldwide to help them improve their style. I typically work with entrepreneurs, speakers, CEOs, authors, etc., who are trying to put their best foot forward in the world.

Tell us about yourself

I've been doing this in one form or another for almost a decade, and it still brings me joy to help guys the way I do. Guys have no idea how their self-confidence can skyrocket from taking care of their appearance. It's something that spills over into every area of your life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building a respectable brand over time has been quite the journey and one I'm very proud of. But helping guys improve an area of their lives they had no idea they could, seeing their lives improve more than they thought they could, makes me the happiest. I've had clients tell me all sorts of stories of positive stuff that's happened to them. One of my clients emailed me to tell me that he met his wife because of this. I'm certainly not going to take credit for that, but that's a proud moment when you can make an impact like that.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The backend stuff. You can't just be good at what you're offering. You have to be a good leader, accountant, customer service professional, and everything else in between. You wear a lot of hats, but it's worth it, and I wouldn't trade it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Be exceptionally good at what you do. You will be shocked at how many people try to help you if you're great at what you're delivering. This should be your top priority before starting to come up with a business name, website, etc. Develop your skill so that it's undeniable that you're an expert.

Second, realize it takes longer than you think, but it's worth the journey. You'll learn more about the world by starting a business than any other form of education.

Third, learn to love the work, not the result. Try not to attach too much to the outcome of starting a business and fall in love with the process. If you make your work feel/look like play, you'll outdo everyone else in your space.
