Health and Happiness is Our Mission - Piper + Enza
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rita Ho-Bezzola, Founder and CEO of Piper + Enza, located in La Cañada Flintridge, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a media company that focuses on using stories to help families with children cope and thrive in their unique health journeys. Our primary customers are parents and caretakers with children 18 months and up.
Tell us about yourself
I am a mother of 2 beautiful girls - and they are the inspiration for me to start this business. Seeking out resources so I can support them as a mother - and keep my own sanity - has been my focus for the last 9 years of my life. I have been so fortunate to have great resources in my own community - from amazing ECE teachers to child life specialists. I want to be able to send these resources to every parent out there - because it takes a village! Knowing that the stories we are writing are helping children and parents with the inevitable bumps and bruises is what motivates me. I want to help every individual out there rebuild and reimagine their relationship with their healthcare provider - so they feel empowered in the process.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As the founder of Piper + Enza, the biggest accomplishment is our ability to bring healthcare providers with the creative team and reimagining how we teach children about health experiences. Creating great content that is engaging but endorsed by the health professionals that helped children (one of them is going through chemo) by far is our biggest accomplishment to date.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being a founder, the learning curve is steep. At this stage, we are still doing everything in-house, so trying to make the deadlines across 5 different disciplines can get stressful. Trying to figure out where to put resources is nerve-racking. Getting comfortable with the unknowns and taking risks have been the hardest things for me!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Lean into your network, and don't be shy to ask for help.
- Get a grip on that Imposter's Syndrome. (You got this!)
- Take care of yourself, so you don't burn out!
