Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lori Moroz, Owner of Pine Press of Lexington, Inc., located in Lexington, SC, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Pine Press began as a printer in 1979 and gradually encompassed mailing, promotional, apparel, wide format signage, and vehicle wraps. Branching out to add multiple forms of marketing that most small businesses would need for their business. 85% of our clients are other small and large businesses, along with churches, schools, and medical offices.
Tell us about yourself
I began at Pine Press as an intern at a Technical School in 1984, where I learned about this industry and grew to love the idea of creating different forms of marketing materials for other businesses and clients. I was able to learn from my original mentor and boss the many aspects of business and had the opportunity to buy the business in 1999. I am motivated very easily just by helping others find solutions to ways they can grow their business. I have a passion for giving back to the community I serve and like to get involved in local events and nonprofits.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I love watching our business grow. Our group of 10 come together and work as a team to accomplish our goals each year, taking on the challenges of adding new equipment, moving to another location, and just overcoming daily challenges with positivity. I want to be a servant leader and lead by example.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
When we added a wide format in 2015, it led to the part of the business that carried us through the Covid pandemic and kept our people employed. This was our biggest challenge to date and one that changed my outlook on finding and making joy when I wasn't sure we were going to get through that year.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Surround yourself with like-minded and wonderful mentors to seek advice and share business ideas with.
- Find your balance, there will be times of determination to make it through endless hours, but we always need to find our balance for faith, family, and work.
- Stay involved in your community and give back where you can.
