What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our chiropractic center provides gentle, specific spinal care to families and people of all ages. Our oldest patient is 95 years old, and our youngest is two days old. We pride ourselves on helping our patients get well and providing them with the tools to stay well.

Tell us about yourself

Choosing to become a chiropractor resulted from an amazing series of events that happened in my mid 20's that brought the profession onto my radar. Having been disappointed with the mundane work of marine biology and uncertain about a stable future as a celebrity bodyguard, I turned to the idea of becoming a doctor. I decided to sit down and figure out what I really wanted out of my work to help me figure out what kind of work I really wanted to do.

I came up with eight non-negotiable traits of the job of my dreams. Carrying that list around in my pocket for a year, meeting every kind of doctor, and interviewing them to see if they matched my list, chiropractors hit all the boxes for me. I later attended a lecture by a local chiropractor about what chiropractic is and what chiropractors do. During this talk, he mentioned that when a spine is unwell, it lowers the body's nervous system health, which has long-term negative effects on an individual's health as time goes by. Indeed, by helping to create a community of healthy people as chiropractors do, we can make people feel better and live healthier and have the ability to influence the health of future generations positively.

I felt a strong bolt of lightning shoot up my spine and a warm feeling move out to my arms and legs as he said these words. As this was happening to me, I had a clear thought "I am going to become a chiropractor." This larger purpose and vision to make our world a better place and the enthusiasm that this carries for me, travel with me every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is the achievement of being in practice for 30 years. I feel proud of the fact that in our NYC office, we have weathered storms and overcome obstacles to be able to provide care. During 911, Hurricane Sandy, and now Covid, people have been under tremendous stress. There is a deep sense of pride that we have to be able to be here during difficult times.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Practically speaking, hiring people who can share in the vision and commit to the high standards we set has been the most difficult challenge of our practice.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start With Why by Simon Sinek
  2. Never Lose A Customer Again-Joey Coleman
  3. The Obstacle Is The Way- Ryan Holiday

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Give every person in your business a use-value over the cash value you receive from them. The success you achieve will be in direct proportion to the definiteness of your vision, the adherence to your purpose, the steadiness of your faith, and the depth of your gratitude.
