What's your business, and who are your customers?
I do custom laser cutting and engraving. The laser will cut Wood, Plastic, Laminates, Paper, Card Stock, Leather, Fabric, Felt, Foam, Rubber, and more! It can engrave Wood, Plastic, Laminates, Coated Metals, Metal Marking, Glass, Glass Marking, Wine/Water Glasses, Wine Bottles, Ceramic Tile, Marble, Granite, Slate, Leather, Fabric, Felt, Foam, Rubber, and more! My ideal customer is anyone looking for a unique, memorable, custom engrave product.
Tell us about yourself
In 2001 I told my wife I was retiring from my engineering job. She told me that I wasn't going to sit home and do anything. Since I liked to draw and work with computers, we came up with the idea of laser engraving, which combines the best of both. In 2007 I obtained my laser and established my laser engraving business in August of that year.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having worked in an environment where someone else always told me what to do, my biggest accomplishment is successfully switching to an environment where I am totally in control.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing with being a business owner is managing all the aspects of running a business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Network. I started with the local Chamber of Commerce.
- Get whatever business and marketing training you can get.
- Manage your time wisely. Make sure there is time for yourself as well.
