Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chari Pack, Founder of Persnickety Prints, located in Orem, UT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Persnickety Prints launched in 2010 as a boutique online photo lab giving each customer the white glove treatment they need with digital photos. Ten years later, I’ve found that people are overwhelmed with the amount of photos on their phones and the fear of losing them. To solve this problem, I launched the Persnickety Box app in 2021.

The Persnickety Box App is perfect for the busy mom who wants to capture and hold onto those little moments of their kids that go by too fast. More importantly, storytellers. Photos tell a story, no matter how big or small. My new Persnickety Box app allows those photos to come to life. 30 real photographic archival prints are delivered monthly in a keepsake story box. Add a journal, photo album, or frame right in the app. We’ve made it. They can be held, appreciated, and admired by generations.

Tell us about yourself

I have an inner desire to achieve at the highest level, and my competitive nature has translated into my business. Digital imaging is a male-dominated industry that I plan on disrupting. I’ve always been a storyteller. Girls were cheerleaders and dancers in high school; I was on the football field with a VHS camcorder filming segments for the Friday showing of “Tiger TV.” Marketing has always come easily through storytelling and just being true to me. Customers become emotional when they see their photos or art in a tangible format. It’s so fulfilling to hear customer feedback full of joy from giving them the thing that matters most, their special moments.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am proud that we haven’t compromised customer experience for quick growth. Instead, we’ve stayed consistent and focused on quality, speed, and service to help people tell their stories through photos.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would say the hardest thing about being a business owner is building the right team around me who also believes in the vision and works hard to make it happen.

Persnickety Prints and the Persnickety Box app are both bootstrapped; this can be challenging at times but rewarding when I don’t owe anyone a dime at the end of the day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

If you don’t have passion for what you’re doing, there’s a big chance you’ll burn out. It takes problem-solving and constant innovation to compete in any industry. Just like a child, your business is always on the top of your mind, you’ll stress and worry about it 24/7, and you’ll need to be intentional about finding balance.
