Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in design services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brandon Wayne, Owner of PEAK Wraps & Graphics, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

PEAK Wraps & Graphics specializes in designing, printing, and installing large format prints such as vehicle wraps, storefront graphics, and convention/tradeshow graphics.

Tell us about yourself

I am the owner and senior designer of PEAK Wraps and Graphics. Since I was young, I have always loved design and art. Life has a way of bringing things back, and it took 22 years for me to get back into art again. I have always dreamed of being a business owner and getting the opportunity to use my passion for art and turn it into functional design. Coming from 18 years in the service industry, I saw the importance of doing the little things that made my customers feel extra special. I believe the perception of a business is everything, and I have set out to improve the visual perception of every business I can lay my hands on. My mission is to help business owners thrive by looking like the big brands.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Personal development. Owning a business has a funny way of bringing out your weaknesses that you're usually blind to. I've been fortunate to have business coaches over the years help be that second set of eyes and bring those weaknesses to light so I can take accountability and work on them.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

You wear a lot of hats, especially in the beginning. You're no longer responsible for only one area/task/department/etc. You're now the salesperson, marketing executive, bookkeeper, customer service representative, production manager, project manager, and much more. All of this is on top of your very important role of a Leader.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just get started. There's a great quote that says, "You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great." Another great one says, "Everyone has a plan' till they get punched in the mouth." Of course, do your due diligence, plan, and handle whatever else you think needs to be done but don't get lost in the planning stage without ever taking those first steps of action.
  2. Create your organizational structure as soon as possible. This will really help you to create necessary systems and gain clarity around what tasks your employees or contractors should be responsible for.
  3. Learn sales. If you've never been in a sales role, I will get a job as a salesperson before starting a business. Preferably one with a great sales training program they will run you through. No business survives without sales.
