Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jeremy Reeves, Owner & Founder of Peak Biome, located in Virginia Beach, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a company called Peak Biome. We help people over 50 years old (primarily women) make smarter choices about their bodies to help heal themselves naturally.

Tell us about yourself

I wrote sales copy for about 10 years and sold nutritional supplements for most of that time. In fact, I still take on consulting clients every once in a while at https://www.jeremyreeves.com. I then became a marketing director for a company. After a few years, the entrepreneurial bug came roaring back, and I knew I had to go out on my own again. It was a pretty natural fit to start a supplement company!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

For me, it's been learning how to delegate honestly. I used to be enslaved by my business. It was only after I let go of the reigns and began to trust my team that the company turned into something that was much more self-managing. It's still a work in progress, of course, but I don't feel as tied to the business as I used to.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, it's the constant ups and downs. One day you have a huge celebration because something amazing happened. 15 minutes later, some catastrophic event happens, and you're scrambling because you think the business is going to implode. It took me a long time and a lot of personal development work to get my emotions more stable!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. First is to realize that YOU set the tone for your company. If you want great employees, YOU need to be great first. You have to lead by example at ALL times.
  2. Second, spend all your time, in the beginning, focusing on the message-to-market match. Don't try and launch 15 products at once. Find ONE that works and can carry you to at least multiple 6-figures. Find something people want. Then, and only then, start expanding. You can increase your average order value and lifetime value with other people's products in the meantime.
  3. Finally, put everything you have into your people. So many people look at their employees as robots. They're people, and they're EVERYTHING to the success of your company. Treat them like such.
