Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stephanie Ton, owner of Peachy Events, located in Houston, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a luxury wedding planning business in Houston, TX. Our clients are looking for someone to help them pull off a seamless, stress-free, and memorable day for themselves and their guests.
Tell us about yourself
I studied hospitality in college and knew I had always wanted to be a part of a service-based industry. Wedding planning fell into my lap after bouncing around the hospitality industry for a few years. After I worked my first wedding with a family friend, I knew I was done trying to find what I was passionate about. What motivates me each day to do what I do is the pure enjoyment of it. Each client is different, and no day is the same. It's challenging while, at the same time, you're creating one of the happiest days of someone's life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the relationships I've built. I would not be where I am today without the friendships, support, and clientele I've cultivated throughout the years.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is learning to stay true to yourself. It's easy to compare yourself to others and their work, wondering why you're in a different place than a colleague, why they're booking certain clients, and you're not, etc. What's important to remind yourself is that you are the niche. There is enough business and clients to go around for everyone.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My top 3 tips are mindset, relationships, and ego. Running a business is very mindset heavy. Every day is different. There are a lot of ups and downs. It's important to keep in mind the long game. Relationships are extremely important, and they have to be genuine. People can read right through you if you're not. Nurturing relationships and building others up can do wonders when you're in a bind. Lastly, let your ego go. It will only hold you back.
