Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Payal Patel, Franchise Partner of THE TEN SPOT beauty bar windermere, located in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run THE TEN SPOT beauty bar in Windermere, Edmonton, Canada. THE TEN SPOT is a fastest-growing beauty concept in North America. Our goal is to make everyone feel like a ten means they live their best life ever by making them feel put together + polished, which makes a person feel confident. Confident people do great things, and confident people live their best life. We do it by creating a vibrant + energetic place where busy women can get their flawless services like waxing, laser, facials, pedicure, manicures, and nails done in an ultra-clean atmosphere.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Payal Patel. I started this business with my husband, Jatin Patel. I grew up in India and immigrated to Canada in 2013. I have two beautiful twins, one boy & one girl. I am an Esthetician by profession. I am a busy woman and passionate about the beauty world. I like to look great and especially feel great, but it is not always easy in this busy world that we live in. I am sure more women feel the same way and who want impeccably efficient services in an ultra-clean environment. So, I found this beauty bar concept, THE TEN SPOT, and immediately fell in love. THE TEN SPOT was created in 2006 by Kristen Gale on the same concept and is creating an outstanding impact on women’s lives. I am really excited to bring this amazing concept to our home city Edmonton and make a difference in the lives of women in our community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment would be creating a place with an energetic + ultra clean vibe, so everyone feels that they live their best lives. Everyone includes our guests who get their services + our 10spotters who give those services. This is one life that we have, so helping people to feel like a ten means to live it fullest would make me feel that I have accomplished my goal.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, the hardest thing was not knowing where to start. It is so overwhelming to start your dream business and create that atmosphere. I learned it by taking one step at a time and reminding myself not to overwhelm myself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a value-added business that gives you the motivation to wake up in the morning. Create goals around that value and live for it.
  2. Be a student & Learn every day: Read books; you can learn a lot from YouTube as well. You can not do everything alone, so get coaching, find a mentor, and ask for help.
  3. Be consistent and focus on bite-size tasks. You can not start a business in one day, but in one day, you can call a friend who started a business and ask how he started it. Success should not be a surprise for you.
