Inviting and Inspiring - Parlour One Salon
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Becky Miller, Owner of Parlour One Salon, located in Gilbert, AZ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Parlour One Salon is a high-end salon based in Gilbert, Arizona. Our culture is based on innovation and collaboration, and we cultivated a team of passionate stylists. We approach each appointment in a unique and intentional way that is specific to the guests' individual needs.
Tell us about yourself
To be honest, I didn't always know I wanted to own my own salon. It took me many years in the industry, and a few failed attempts at finding the right salon fit for me to realize what I was looking for wasn't built yet. Once I decided salon ownership was my path, I dove in head first and never looked back! I got to work on a business model and plan that was made up of all my knowledge and ideas, and I combined elements that I knew worked well and reinvented areas that I believed desperately needed to be modernized.
Details are very important to me because I believe that is what makes us unique and sets us apart from one another. I wanted to curate the perfect team of professionals to help bring my vision to life, from the location, interior design, architecture, graphic design, etc., and it took me over 3 years to do it.
My motivation stems from my passion for leading and mentoring others by showing up for them every day and leading them in a positive and encouraging way. I absolutely love doing hair and connecting with my clients every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Building a salon that my team takes just as much pride in as I do because they are proud to be part of it. Watching them interact with each other every day and seeing them embody the culture I so desperately wanted to create.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balance. Being true to your vision and goals while trying to be a people pleaser is probably the hardest lesson I have had to learn. Sometimes you have to part ways with someone because they don't value the same principles you do, knowing that's what's best for both of you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know your 'Why.' When the road gets rough and all seems to be failing, the only thing that keeps you going is your passion and why.
- Surround yourself with people that uphold the same values as you; they will be a constant support system for you.
- Set goals and plan out your path to hit those goals. It can be incredibly overwhelming at times, but it's important to celebrate the wins, even if they are smaller milestones.
